MEGAN MORONEY GRIEVES A WOULD-BE ANNIVERSARY ON “28TH OF JUNE”

Today (22nd March), Sony Music Nashville/ Columbia Records singer-songwriter, Megan Moroney returned with her new song “28th of June” – a quietly gut-punching piano ballad that marks one of her most vulnerable offerings yet.

You can go and listen to “28th of June” here.

“28th of June” was written by Megan, Ben Williams, Mackenzie Carpenter, and Micah Carpenter, “28th of June” serves as the follow-up to “No Caller ID” – a January release that quickly set the record for the biggest Country female song debut in streams in the U.S., amassing 8.4 Million global streams in its first week alone.

Like its predecessor, “28th of June” brings Megan’s nuanced yet powerful songwriting to a bittersweet reflection on a broken relationship. This time around, the Georgia-bred artist explores one of the more devastating aspects of moving on from a breakup – the undeniable pain that hits when your would-be anniversary rolls around and stirs up so many hurtful memories.

Recorded at the legendary Blackbird Studio in Nashville and produced by her frequent collaborator, Kristian Bush who also helmed production on her widely lauded debut album LUCKY, “28th of June” sets Megan’s storytelling to a breathtakingly sparse, piano-driven arrangement adorned with plenty of lovely details including graceful steel-guitar tones and Megan’s delicate background vocals. As she narrates all the different dimensions of her heartbreak (the sting of nostalgia, the empty comfort of sleeping alone in her ex’s shirt, the raw betrayal of being replaced), Megan ultimately infuses the song with all the dreamy sensitivity and unflinching honesty that audiences have come to expect from one of Country’s brightest young stars.

The latest turn in what’s sure to be another powerhouse year for Megan, “28th of June” arrives as Country’s It Girl has two singles in the Top 25 on Country radio: “I’m Not Pretty” (the magnetic opening track to LUCKY) and “Can’t Break Up Now” (her recent collaboration with Old Dominion).

“28th of June” also follows the release of an all-acoustic version of “No Caller ID” from the Emo Cowgirl Live Sessions listen here. Along with dramatically expanding her following on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, “No Caller ID” earned raves from the likes of Rolling Stone, American Songwriter, Taste of Country, and Holler (who hailed it as “enchantingly hazy” and noted that the song “pivots around the poignant juxtaposition between the sweet, intricate instrumentation and the incisive, melancholic edge of the lyricism”).

Next month, Megan will embark on THE LUCKY 2.0 TOUR — a headlining run that sold out just five minutes after tickets went on sale in January. Solidifying her status as an in-demand headliner, her third consecutive headline tour kicks off on 19th April in Dothan, Alabama, and is currently set to continue through 26th July in Aspen, Colorado with special guest Logan Crosbyas support.

Soon after completing that run, Megan will head overseas for the GEORGIA GIRL TOUR: a 15-date headlining tour of the UK and Europe beginning on 4th September in Cardiff, UK, and wrapping up on September 27 in Zurich, Switzerland.

Thanks in part to the massive success of LUCKY, Megan’s 2023 LP that propelled her to best-of-the-year lists from major outlets like The New York Times and Rolling Stone and delivered her 2X PLATINUM, No. 1 breakout “Tennessee Orange” – Megan has emerged as one of five artists leading the nominations for the 2024 CMT Music Awards with three nods: Female Video of the Year (“I’m Not Pretty”), Collaborative Video of the Year for “Can’t Break Up Now” with Old Dominion, and Digital-First Performance of the Year (“I’m Not Pretty” from CMT Digital Campfire Sessions).

The fan-voted award show airs live from Austin, Texas on 7th April at 8 PM ET/PT on CBS, and will be available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+ (vote at vote.cmt.com). Megan is also vying for three 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards; Best New Artist (Country), plus all-genre, fan-voted categories Favorite Debut Album and Social Star, broadcasting live on 1st April at 8/7c on FOX (go here to vote now).
